What a wonderful assembly we had in honour of Remembrance Day. Students brought a number of fun activities home and I hope they enjoyed working on them.
In Art, we took a look at some fields of poppies and talked about perspective. We noticed that the poppies closest to us were larger and that they got smaller as they moved farther away. We used this knowledge to create our own poppy pictures. We used both paints and oil pastels. They are on display on the bulletin board in front of our classroom.
In Math, we are wrapping up our Data Management unit and have also been spending a little more time practicing our counting. In Grade 2, students are expected to count forward to 200 by 1's, 2's, 5's, 10's and 25's. We have this fun little song to help us, though we enjoy it so much, we've been working on numbers a little higher than 200!
Juli Powers: 1 à 100000
Next week, we will begin our unit on Patterning, particularly focusing on attributes (colour, size, shape) and how they change to make patterns. In Grade 2, students are expected to recognize and create repeating patterns with 2 different attributes. Look around your house, how may different things can you find with repeating patterns?
Looking forward to celebrating your child's successes at school during Student-led conferences this week,
Michelle
